Hello all,

I own a very nice copy of 7740 passenger train with box, which I think is original in every brick. I have been buying used LEGO sets for over 3 years very intensively and I've seen lots of things. Mixed sets are easy to recognize, as bricks tend to be in different state or different coloration. Sometimes bricks differs too, as round brick 1x1 3062a with solid stud are mixed with 3062b or 1x2 sloped brick 3040a without bottom tube with newer 3040.
This time though, every brick seems legit, the same coloration, same state, all the same versions. Even though I wasnt the one who opened the box, it seems to be assembled once and left alone for over 30 years just waiting for someone to buy it :)

I am talking about it because @SezaR asked me what parts are exactly present in my version of the train. Here are some details on that subject with photos attached!

What is the most interesting is that I have motor which is not present on bricklink even. Motor has two holes for connecting wires, the same holes as lightbrick has.
Two 765 cables in 28 stud length are present, round bricks 3062b, sloped 3040 bricks 1x2 with tube, 3940a grey support tube with blind hole, 3839b - new handle with brick attached upper than handles. That how it looks.
I think it might interest every AFOCL (classic yeah!) :)

It's nice that someone is really digging the 12V mysteries. I'm following most of Reza's topics on Eurobricks. These are interesting, and it's really good to see some people interested in 30 years old things. I hope these pictures will help Reza answering some questions about 12V gray-era.

Hi everybody,
I should thank Rogdush a lot. His help in this matter may seem small, but I may only need about 5 to 15 people checking the inventory of 7740 to get a complete image of this set. Specially, Rogdush's set was an early release. I am so happy -:)  I believe there should be two or three variations of this set.
Few remarks:
1) Fortunately, your motor with two holes exists on bricklink. It is named bb12va.  I say fortunately, because otherwise I would need to spend a lot of time, taking photos,.. and convincing admins of bricklink to add it to the catalog.
I give the links to two photos (seems I cannot attach any photo, why?) for all variations of black and red 12v motors, for comparison. Note that currently, bricklink doesn't distinguish motors type 2 and 3, naming both bb12vb.

2) there is an extra cable, not mentioned on inventory (similarly for 7740 and 7725). I am not sure if this cable was also included in the latest releases, as the content of 7864 transformer also changed.
3) Was 3062a "two Black Brick, Round 1 x 1 Solid Stud" included in very early releases?
4) Was 3839a "Light Gray Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with Handles - Round Ends, Mid Attachment" included in very early releases?
5) Was 3040a "Light Gray Slope 45 2 x 1 - without Bottom Tube"  included in very early releases?

There are all questions to be answered for 7740 :-)

- I believe the box of Rogdush has 4 green trays as it is an early release. In the later releases, there were two green trays.

- After I asked Rogdush to check his 7740 for few parts, I prepared a list of parts to be checked for sets 7725, 7730, 7735, 7740, 7745, 7750. For other sets, there are only a couple of questions to be checked. The most mysterious and challenging set is 7730 which is not even rare. But I have not found anybody having this set since his childhood, or I have not found a good bunch of photos of a sealed set.

Now it is time that I ask Rogdush about his other 12v set :-)

Thanks Evan for your support :-) I don't think you wrote any comment en eurobrick for my posts. Otherwise I would notice and would answer you "en Français"!

Hello SezaR!

You can attach photos by adding them as attachment below, just check the box and it will be enabled. It is possible to add 5 photos like that.
I am unsure what green trays you are talking about, are those on the box? I will check it.
LEGO 7745 I have from the begining, it is the biggest set from childhood. It is 100% original :)
You mention about sheet document with checklist for 7745? You can attach it here or just send it to rogdush at clabrisic.com. It would be the best to attach it simply to the thread and we will have some history here :) Photos do not work from flickr.. thats why I like normal attachments, they will not vanish. I have LEGO 7720 train also, but without box. Either way it seems to be original, but it is not 100% sure like with 7740 :)
Lets keep the discussion here if you dont mind.

It seems that my version of 7740 is later release as it has lots of newer parts instead of old like barrel without solid stud.

You know, I like seeing people interested in such things, I may be only 18, but I hope that more people will try to dig through this history. If I don't speak on Eurobricks, it's that as I don't own any 12V train, these are not easy to find in France.
The big sad thing about French 12V collectors is that 7750 was not available...

By the way, I've in my collection a 7722 battery wagon with a black switch. I'm just from discovering it. So this should have been sold in France. But I don't have the rest of the set to date it, I did find it in a bulk.

If ever you are working on Classic Town, I've made some interesting discoveries too about availlability of 1472 and 6377. I'm now hunting for more rare French gems.

Hi again,

I am tired of these inventories :-)
So many problems in inventories. Not only I need to understand all variants of a set and there are about 50 sets, some rare, but I need to prove such a part exists but there is no sealed set or if there is, we can see that part in the photo. I also need to prove that a part was never used in a set which is even harder! (impossible?)
I think they have to hire me sometime soon :-)
The good news is that an Italian guy returned to bricklink. I had seen his inventory change requests since 2015 but he was busy and was not active for a while. Since his return, many of my questions got answered and we made a big jump. I am also happy that I could explain him few things "my own discoveries" :-)
Anyway, I copied and pasted the checklist of 7745 but the images didn't go through. So you need to check the identity numbers in bricklink.

Evan,
ça va?
I have the set 6377. This is a Canadian-American set. I got first parts of it in a big lot and got to know it. Recently, I bought it with box from US. I also realized that a French seller had it for sale on bricklink. Then I read in brickset an article written by Gary Istok that this set was sold also in France. As far as I know, 1472 was first promotional, but I don't remember from where. I have seen it few times in French websites "leboncoin" but I don't know more about it. TLG renamed it later and released as 6388.

Cheers

P.S. I got a proof that the motor bb12vc came also with 7745. I submitted this "change of inventory request". Now, I need to find evidence for 7735.

Rogdush,
This is the checklist for 7740. Please check what question you have not answered. Your help is invaluable:
1) what is the type of the motor? (see photos attached)2) the production date of the motor engraved on the bottom? (something like 25 82)3) there are two wires used in the wagon for lights. But there is also a third wire not mentioned in the inventory. Is it included? What is its length?4) which part came?

Hello SezaR!

This list is very long! Hah. You put lots of effort into this. On the other hand I understand reluctance of bricklink admins. If it is like you say, then it is good. They want it to be as reliable as it can get. This is good! Even though they should give you some credit for your work :) For 7745 I can give my personal guaranty of originality. This set was never mixed with anything and it is unfortunatelly the only one Town set that passed time trial.
I will check it as soon as I can. I do not have too much time lately. Give me couple of days.

Hello Rogdush,
For 7740, could you answer the questions 12, 13 and 14? For 12, you may know if it came with 3241c or not.
And concerning, wires, I am convinced there had to be a third wire 765c96 of 96 studs.
Otherwise, your 7740 looks original.

Take your time for 7745.
I also have checklist for 7838, 7839, 7860, 7760, 7730,...anything. For most of them, there is only one or two questions.
